i2CAT has selected Smart City Expo World Congress 2026 for the first showcase of Delton Labs, a distributed testing infrastructure for advanced digital technologies. The research centre announced the presentation on October 30 ahead of the Barcelona event.

The laboratories are intended to give companies, startups and public institutions access to simulation, modelling and validation in real environments before commercial deployment. Sites across Catalonia include Barcelona’s Pier 01, the World Trade Centre, the port and rural locations such as Móra la Nova.

The expo programme connects this infrastructure with mobility and communications trials. Examples include computer vision, satellite connectivity and sensors for managing tourist traffic in the Pyrenees, plus drone corridors for transporting medical supplies and biological samples.

i2CAT is also highlighting DIMOS 5G, a project with Autopistas that validated a digital twin using 5G and vehicle-to-everything communication on the C-32 to prioritise ambulances. Together, the demonstrations show how shared testing facilities can help assess urban technology before organisations invest in their own equipment or commit to wider deployment.
