Mercedes-Benz has outlined research that could change both electric-vehicle power systems and the way cars display information. Its November 3 technology update covers programmable battery power electronics, displays embedded in glass and a holographic windshield concept.
The proposed Power Converter controls energy at the level of individual battery cells or cell groups. Rather than letting the battery’s state of charge directly dictate system voltage, decentralized micro-converters could provide a stable output of up to 800 volts. Mercedes says the current generation delivers up to 3 kW and supports AC and DC applications.
Connecting multiple converters could make future battery architectures more modular and combine functions now handled by separate hardware, including conversion and bidirectional charging. These are development possibilities, rather than specifications for an announced production vehicle.
On the display side, transparent optical elements in the windshield direct projected images toward selected viewing angles. Separate LED research explores warning messages in vehicle windows. Mercedes explicitly says these projects remain under development; no customer availability or series-production launch was announced.
