Alfen is expanding its collaboration with charging-software specialist Pionix, adopting the LF Energy EVerest software stack as a foundation for future charging products. Announced on October 28, the partnership focuses on more dependable communication between vehicles, chargers and operating systems.
EVerest is an open-source platform hosted by LF Energy, part of the Linux Foundation. It provides shared implementations of charging standards, including ISO 15118 and OCPP, so manufacturers can build on a common software base while adding their own product engineering and support.
One potential benefit is Plug & Charge, which allows a compatible car and charger to authenticate automatically without the driver presenting a card or opening an app for each session. Alfen points to interoperability testing, managed firmware releases and product-specific validation as essential parts of turning standards support into a reliable experience.
The announcement sets out a software partnership rather than a promise that every existing Alfen charger immediately gains these features. Compatibility still depends on the vehicle, charging hardware and deployed software. The wider significance is treating charging reliability as a shared software problem alongside the hardware.
