Volkswagen Group China has introduced VEGA, a locally developed technology stack combining vehicle platforms, electronic architecture and driver-assistance software. The company presented it at its October 28 Tech Day in Hefei and published the announcement on October 29.
A central component is Hyper Sense 8, developed through the group’s CARIZON intelligent-driving operation. Volkswagen says it supports navigation-assisted driving in both cities and on highways, alongside parking functions, with installation planned across seven new-energy models in 2026. Its “L2++” label describes driver assistance; it should not be read as permission for unattended driving.
The wider roadmap includes 850-volt charging and a target of technical readiness for Level 3 automated driving in 2027. Volkswagen also reports securing a Level 3 road-test permit in Hefei, an engineering milestone rather than a general commercial deployment approval.
VEGA is part of a broader effort to use China-developed technology outside China. Volkswagen identifies South America as the first destination for localizing these technologies, linking its Chinese software and vehicle-development capabilities to future products in other markets.
